At last month’s Miami-Dade County Commission meeting, Commissioner Barbara Jordan presented a proclamation to Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport for being named the state of Florida’s General Aviation Airport of the Year for 2018 by FDOT.
Among the airport’s successes, the air field facility’s annual flight operations grew 1.5 percent to 136,556 in 2017 for a daily average of 374.
“We’ve watched the airport transform from being barren to now receiving over $500 million in public and private investments,” Jordan said.
Miami-Opa locka Executive was also recognized for outstanding achievements in airport safety, aesthetics, overall management and social impacts.
“This airport has become the example for how we’re going to develop all general aviation airports and the surrounding areas,” said Miami-Dade Aviation director Lester Sola.
Recent public and private investments at Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport include the $150 million Carrie Meek International Business Park, which is home to the new Amazon Fulfillment Center, and $90 million for the Bombardier Maintenance Facility, which broke ground on October 3.
