Cub Scout Pack 660 marks 50th year in Miami Lakes

2018 is a historic year for Cub Scout Pack 660 which is celebrating 50 years of service to the community fostering “Leadership through Fun” in young boys from Miami Lakes and the greater North Dade community.

Chartered to Miami Lakes United Methodist Church and affiliated with Miami Lakes K-8 Center, Pack 660 has always worked with boys in grades 1 to 5 to teach them citizenship, outdoorsmanship, confidence, and character.

“Our Pack’s long history in Miami Lakes is substantive,” said Cub Master Sean Schwinghammer, who has worked with the Pack for 16 years.

“Whenever people from the community meet boys from our Pack, they share memories of when their children and grandchildren were in the Pack. Pack 660 has been a main stay in the community and has been blessed with thousands of wonderful boys and families,” he said.

The Pack marked the start of its 50th anniversary year at its annual Blue and Gold Banquet in February celebrating the birthday of Cub Scouting. At the event, Pack 660 Scouts hosted its own Pine Wood Derby car race and earned many awards.

In addition, six boys earned their Arrow of Light Award, the highest award in Cub Scouting. Webelo Scouts Justin Correa, Michael Basulto, Caleb Gonzalez, Dillenger Pento, Matthew Hernandez and Jayden Puig each earned the award under the leadership of their Den Leader Rebecca Correa.

Committee chairwoman Stephanie Acevedo said, “Our Pack 660 will celebrate its 50th anniversary throughout all of 2018, and God willing, the Pack will continue to serve Miami Lakes boys for another 50 years by offering challenges, adventure in the outdoors, and fun.”
